getting rid of pigeons from windows that open outwards

In most situations the Defender Opening Window Spikes™ is the best solution for getting rid of pigeons perching on ledges infront of opening windows.

the problem

I need help getting rid of pigeons that perch on ledges infront of windows that open outwards causing build up of pigeon excrement on the window ledge.

the solution

A unique anti-pigeon device from Jones and Son called the Defender Opening Window Spikes™ attaches directly onto window frames that open outwards.

They allow the window to open without damaging the spikes and protect the window ledge from pigeons. The window spikes are delivered as a complete unit ready assembled and the clips are simply screwed (self tapping screws included) directly onto the window frame itself. This method ensures the window won't knock any spikes off the window sill because the spikes move with the window - an ideal solution for getting rid of problem pigeons!

Each strip of window spike is 13 inches (one third of a metre) and the maximum window sill protection is 8 inches (200mm).

who supplies it?

how do i install it?

Before starting the job, assess the work to make sure that you can do it safely and without hurting yourself or others. If you have any doubts at all then please contact a specialist. Wear suitable protective clothing, dust mask, gloves, overalls etc.

When ledges and frames have been cleaned properly, simply screw the clips directly onto the window frame itself. If you do not want to screw the clip onto the window frame then remove the spike from the clip, glue the clip to frame and leave for 24 hours before putting the spike back into the clip. This will give the window clip time to bond securely to the window frame before you add the extra weight of the spike.

Every effort should be made to spike all possible landing sites that are 2 inches (5cm) or greater. Snap spikes into pieces to finish off rows or spike small areas. Spikes can be easily snapped using your fingers.

A word of warning : scaffolders, window cleaners, painters, contractors on ladders etc. can often damage bird spikes. Ask them to be careful whilst working as a slightly damaged spike can provide an ideal nesting or roosting spot for a bird. Any damaged spikes should be replaced before pigeons have a chance to move in.
